A double base propellant composition having well- platonised ballistics at low burning rates consists of nitroglycerine (NG), nitrocellulose (NC) at least one lead compound and at least one copper (II) salt of an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid. The copper salt preferably comprises copper succinate, and the lead compound may include any of those known as ballistic modifiers in the propellant art. A preferred composition, having a platonised burning rate of 2.3 mm s -1 at a chamber pressure of 2-3 MPa, comprises by weight 35.1% NC (12.6% nitrogen), 41.6% NG, 8.3% triacetin, 10.7% sucrose octa-acetate, 0.3% 2- nitrodiphenylamine, 1.2% p-nitromethylaniline, 1.0% copper (II) succinate and 1.8% lead acetophthalate.

A weight, in particular a fishing weight, is composed of a material comprising high-density metal powder in a polymeric matrix. The weight comprises body parts (4a, 4b or 24a, 24b) joined by hinge means (6 or 26 or 66) which allow the body parts to be closed together to grip a line between them and to be reopened. The hinge means may be an integral element (6) of the same material as the body parts or a separate flexible element (26 or 66) embedded in the body parts. The weights can be economically produced as large grid-like groups using injection moulding methods. They can offer particular advantages of non-toxicity, and the ability to be re-used many times.

A firearm especially for firing large calibre rounds such as rubber bullets and having a rotary magazine (2) which is rechargeable at any stage of depletion. A loading (63) arm serves to guide rounds through an inlet opening in the magazine (2), in such a way that they are received into corresponding locations in a rotating carrier (46,47), and the carrier rotates forward one position with each additional round. Until the penultimate round, the guide means (63, 64, 65) is locked to the magazine body (40). In this position, it obstructs further movement of the first-inserted round and thus prevents insertion of the final round. Mechanism is described by which, on insertion of the final round the guide means automatically unlocks from the magazine body and locks to the rotating carrier. In this condition it serves to keep the first inserted round locked in the magazine as it completes a full rotation to come opposite the inlet opening once more. Mechanism for firing automatic indexing the carrier, and automatic extraction and ejection of spent cartridges is described.

Mechanism for firing, automatic feed, and automatic extraction and ejection of spent rounds is described.
