In order to form the radially outer surfaces of the piston slipper walls (27, 27') and a peripheral cooling pocket (20) located radially outside the slipper walls (27, 27') in the piston head (29), the forging device (1) has two lateral jaws (10, 11) which are mounted in the forging device (1) so as to be movable at an angle to the longitudinal axis (3) of the forging device (1).

A piston (1) for an internal combustion engine is proposed with a piston head (4) and with two pin bosses (7) which lie opposite one another, are moulded integrally onto the piston head (4) in the direction which faces away from the piston head, and have in each case one pin bore (8). In each case one turned groove (10) is formed into the radially inner regions of the lower halves of the pin bores (8), which halves face away from the piston head.
