摘要: A fuel pumping apparatus comprises a low pressure pump (47) which supplies fuel to a high pressure pump. The quantity of fuel supplied to the high pressure pump and therefore to the associated engine is determined by an adjustable orifice (48) controlled by a mechanical or electronic governor. A further adjustable orifice (49) is connected in series with the first mentioned orifice and this is adjustable to vary the response of the governor.

摘要: A fuel system for an internal combustion engine includes a controller (14) which controls the operation of an engine fuel pump (13). Signals are supplied to the controller by a transducer (16) which is responsive to the passage of teeth formed on the periphery of a wheel (12) which is mounted on the engine crankshaft. In order to generate an engine speed signal it is necessary to know the tooth spacing errors and these are determined from the transducer signals by using a cross-correlation technique to correct the transducer signals for interval variation due to cyclic fluctuation of engine speed following which the tooth spacing errors are calculated to be used in subsequent calculations of the engine speed.

摘要: An actuator for a valve comprises a core member which is formed by a pair of "E" cores (52) the central pole pieces (51) of which are presented to each other and have curved faces. The actuator includes a hollow cylindrical armature (50) located in spaced relationship between the curved faces. The armature and the curved faces are provided with complementary grooves and electrical windings (53) are carried by the central pole pieces. The pole pieces assume opposite magnetic polarity when electrical current flows through the winding. A fixed plug (59) formed from magnetizable material is located with clearance within the armature and provides a magnetic flux path. The relative angular position of the armature and pole pieces can be adjusted.

摘要: A fuel pumping apparatus for supplying fuel to an engine incudes an angularly adjustable throttle (21) for determining the amount of fuel supplied to the engine. The setting of the throttle in normal operation is determined by an actuator (28) which is controlled by an electronic control system (28A). A mechanical governor is provided which is coupled to the throttle member by a sliding link (39) and this acts to prevent the speed of the engine exceeding a predetermined value. In the event of failure of the actuator or control system a pivotal arm (36) is moved to an emergency run position in which the actuator is decoupled from the throttle member and the force exerted by the governor spring of the mechanical governor is reduced to allow the engine to operate at a reduced speed.

The injector (12) includes a valve member (21) biased towards a seating by a coiled compression spring (23). The piston (27) is arranged such that the face thereof facing away from the spring (23) has fuel applied thereto when the spill valve (11) is opened in order to assist movement of the valve member (21) into engagement with the seating.

The system comprises a fuel pump (15) arranged to charge first and second accumulators (10, 11), and control valve means (29, 30) operable to select which of the first and second accumulators (10, 11) is used to supply fuel to the nozzle (28). 摘要: A two part pressure unloading delivery valve (10) for a fuel injection pump comprises an annular valve member (20) within which is slidable a plunger (26). The valve member is biased into engagement with a valve seat (15) by means of a spring (22) and is lifted from the seat by fuel under pressure supplied by the pump. The spring biases the plunger in the direction away from the seat and following closure of the valve member the plunger is moved in the direction towards the seat to allow relief of fuel under pressure from the pipeline (18) connecting the valve (10) with a fuel injection nozzle (19). After a predetermined movement of the plunger against the spring, damping means in part defined by a piston (23) on the plunger, acts to damp the further movement of the plunger.
