摘要:
This invention provides for a batch and continuous process with countercurrent recycle of bleaching filtrates (34,44,54,64) for the delignification and bleaching of pulp (10). Oxygen delignification of pulp (33) is achieved in excess of 50% as measured by kappa numbers, while the pulp viscosity is minimally decreased by no more than about 8 cps. Bleaching of delignified pulp may be achieved with peroxy (23,43,53) compounds and ozone (43) and pulp brightness of from about 82 to 88 ISO maybe achieved with pulp containing zero level TOX from chlorine based bleaching chemicals and zero level of AOX in the bleach effluents. Higher brightness of from about 90 to about 92 ISO can also be achieved by addition of very low levels of chlorine based bleaching chemicals. Corresponding bleach effluents contain less than 200 ppm AOX. Bleaching filtrates may be recycled for pulp washing and for use with an organosolv pulping process which results in significant energy savings and mitigation if not elimination of pollution typically associated with chlorine based bleaching. This invention also relates to bleach pulp product derived from the process and to an apparatus for carrying out the process.
摘要:
A continuous solvent pulping process is practiced with oxygen free gas (e.g. nitrogen) purges of all major treatment vessels (23, 24, 85, 103, 105) during the time when the process is arrested or terminated. The wood chips or other cellulosic fibrous material to be pulped is steamed in a first horizontal steaming zone (23) at a pressure of about 10-20 psi, and then in a second horizontal steaming zone (24) at a pressure of about 20-75 psi. Gases, including vaporized solvent (e.g. ethanol or other alcohol) are vented (via 30, 36) from the steaming zones, and solvent is added (at 39) to the steamed material prior to feeding to a high pressure feeder (11) . The high pressure feeder introduces the material into the top of a single digesting vessel (12), liquid and chips being separated at the top of the digester vessel without mechanical means that could cause a spark. Lignin containing liquid is withdrawn from a central portion (14) of the digester and passed through flash tanks (51-53) and ultimately for lignin and alcohol recovery. Washing -- which also may be practiced using solvent pulp from a batch system -- is accomplished by first continuously passing the pulp to a pressure diffuser (85), then to a first multi stage drum displacer washer (103), and then to a second multi stage drum displacer washer (105).

The invention provides for an admixture for reducing the water content of a concrete mix. The admixture comprises an alkaline solution of a lignin in a sulfomethylolated form. The sulfomethylolated lignin in the admixture can also be cross-linked with a cross-linking agent. The admixture further comprises an air detrainer. Also provided are novel cement compositions comprising the admixture of the invention.

This invention provides for a batch and continuous process with countercurrent recycle of bleaching filtrates for the delignification and bleaching of organosolv pulp. Oxygen delignification of organosolv pulp is achieved in excess of from about 50% to about 76% as measured by kappa numbers, while the pulp viscosity is minimally decreased in the range of from about 2 to about 5 cps. Bleaching of delignified pulp is achieved with peroxy compounds and ozone and pulp brightness of from about 82 to 88 ISO can be achieved with pulp containing zero level TOX from chlorine based bleaching chemicals and zero level of AOX in the bleach effluents. Novel adhesives for wood composites are described. The adhesives comprise a novel combination of an organosolv lignin and a phenol-formaldehyde resin in a weight ratio of from about 0.5:99.5 to about 70:30 based on phenolic solids in said phenol-formaldehyde resin. The adhesives further comprise a modifier which improves the performance of the adhesive. Adhesives comprising an organosolv lignin and a liquid phenol-formaldehyde resin are also described. The organosolv lignin solution is comprised in either an alkaline solution or in a dispersion. Adhesives wherein the organosolv lignin is phenolated or methylolated prior to incorporation with the phenol-formaldehyde resin are also described. Wood composites such as plywood, waferboard, oriented strandboard, particleboard, wallboard and molded products were manufactured using the adhesives of the invention. Results of board testing demonstrate that the wood composites of the invention are competitive with wood composites manufactured using commercial adhesives.
