摘要: A method of providing a pretested electric shift control apparatus for a motor vehicle including an operator input push-button unit for mounting in the instrument panel of the motor vehicle, a power unit for mounting on the transmission of the motor vehicle, and a logic unit for mounting on the motor vehicle in a position in which it is electrically interconnected between the push-button unit and the power unit and operates to transmit operator input signals from the push-button unit to the power unit to shift the transmission to the position corresponding to the operator input. The method comprises the steps of manufacturing a plurality of push-button units; manufacturing a plurality of power units; manufacturing a plurality of logic units; providing a test assembly by assembling a push-button unit, a power unit, and a logic unit in a text fixture in a manner to simulate their assembled interrelationship on the motor vehicle; performing tests on the test assembly simulating the combined operation of the units on the motor vehicle; disassembling the test assembly into at least first and second tested modules; transporting the tested and disassembled modules to one or more motor vehicle manufacturing sites; and reassembling each tested first module on a motor vehicle in combination with a tested second module to provide a pretested electric shift control apparatus for the motor vehicle. A methodology is also disclosed for testing a shift control apparatus for shifting both the transmission and the transfer case of a four wheel drive motor vehicle.

摘要: The present invention is an electronic control apparatus for control of an automatic transmission in a motor vehicle which controlling a motor to shift the transmission to said desired transmission state when the desired transmission state differs from the present transmission state signal. The electronic control apparatus detects and stores any faults in controlling the motor, and generates an output indicating any stored fault codes in response to a particular operator input. In the preferred embodiment the operator input is via plural push-buttons with corresponding lamps. In normal operation a single lamp is turned ON to indicate the present gear. Fault codes are indicated by turning ON the lamps in a code corresponding to the fault code. Detected faults include invalid transmission state signal, time out without completing the shift and over current in the motor. The preferred embodiment further includes an input/output port for receiving commands to read the stored fault codes, to read vehicle condition inputs to the electronic controller and to cause the electronic controller to control the motor to shift the transmission to a commanded state.

摘要: A control system for an electric shift apparatus for a motor vehicle having an automatic transmission (24). The apparatus includes a power module (34) and a control module (36). The power module (34) includes an electric motor (38) driving the transmission mode select shaft (30). The control module (36) includes a logic module (36b) and a shift selector module. The logic module (36b) when the selected new shift position is only one position away from the present transmission position, functions through the motor (38) to move the mode select shaft (30) at a relatively slow speed and, when the requested position is more than one position away from the present transmission position, initially moves the mode select shaft (30) at the relatively rapid speed and thereafter, as the mode select shaft (30) reaches a position within one position of the requested position, moves the mode select shaft (30) at the relatively slow speed to ensure accurate positioning of the mode select shaft (30) without overshoot.

摘要: Motor vehicle control apparatus includes a push button module (36a) to select a desired transmission state, an encoder (72) tracking the position of mode select shaft (30) to provide a transmission state signal, and a logic module (36b) to shift the transmission to the desired state, enable the starter motor (160) on receipt of a ''neutral'' or ''park'' signal from encoder (72), and energize the backup lamp on receipt of a ''reverse'' signal. A light next to each push button indicates the transmission state at all times, all the lights (220) momentarily lighting upon closing the ignition switch as a function check.
