In some embodiments, the method further comprises: applying a window level to the pixel data formed from said recombining; and displaying the window level on a display.

A system and method for annotation of patient image data. First, an image block having image data such as an image series is acquired. Then at least one geometric shape having associated annotation data is defined within the image block and at least one display plane is selected within the image block. The image data associated with the display plane is displayed. Finally, it is determined if the display plane intersect with the geometric shapes and for each display plane that intersects with a geometric shape, the annotation data associated with the geometric shapes being intersected by that display plane is displayed.

An imaging history display system and method is disclosed comprising diagnostic and patient summary interfaces for displaying, comparing and managing medical images. Imaging history display system displays studies in two interface modes in response to commands received from a user workstation. Display entities are displayed on display areas within display entity boxes that are defined by display entity layouts. Contextual summaries of display entities are provided in the patient summary interface to facilitate accurate and exhaustive diagnoses. Contextual summaries are generated in part based on pre-determined relevancy information. Display entities are easily organized in the patient summary interface. Display entities are easily activated in the diagnostic interface for diagnostic and comparison purposes.

A system and method for managing the archival and retention of data in a multiple-node PACS network. Data is distributed among network nodes such that a secondary node will not delete a received image study it has received from a primary node if the primary node is an originating source. Instead, the secondary node will execute data retention. Data retention is achieved by including a delete retention attribute within the metadata associated with the received image data on the secondary node and requiring that the secondary node enforce data retention if a data retention attribute is identified within the metadata stored on the secondary node.

A cursor mode display system and method for indicating an offset distance between a cursor position on an image and a closest image slice in a corresponding image series. First, the three-dimensional coordinates associated with the cursor position on the image are determined by projecting the cursor position onto a three- dimensional patient coordinate system. The closest image slice is then identified as the image slice in the corresponding image series that is closest to the three-dimensional coordinates of the cursor position. The offset distance between the closest image slice and the three-dimensional coordinates associated with the cursor position is then calculated. If the offset distance does not exceed a threshold value, then the closest image slice is displayed. Otherwise a modified version of the closest image slice is displayed.
