Examples of providing the trigger signals include: a time clock, repeated turning on of the hearing aid, repeated placing of a battery and repeated operation of a knob. The hearing aid may be arranged for mutual communication with an external unit. The external unit may include selection means for the setting in the adjusting means of the one or more parameters to be adjusted, range setting means for the setting in the adjusting means of the range of the one or more parameters to be adjusted, step magnitude setting means for the setting in the adjusting means of a step magnitude to be used in said setpwise adjustment, and interval setting means for the setting of the repeat interval of the successive trigger signals in the time clock. The hearing aid carries out the adjustment autonomously in inaudible steps.

The in-the-ear hearing aid (10) has a collar (30) which can form a seal in the bony part (3) of the ear canal (1), which reduces the occlusion effect. The collar (30) comprises a tubular portion (31) which is engageable against the wall (9) of the ear canal, a fixing portion (32) and a curved sealing portion (33). Owing to the use of this collar (30) it is not necessary to make a mould of the bony part (3) of the ear canal. This collar enables the hearing aid to be constructed in such a manner that it can be inserted so deep into ear canal that it is substantially invisible.

The analog input signal is multiplied by a first adjustable scaling factor to form an analog intermediate signal. The analog intermediate signal is converted into a digital representation. The digital representation is multiplied by a second adjustable scaling factor to form a sample signal, and a third adjustable scaling factor to form the digital output signal. The level of the sample signal is determined and compared to first and second threshold values, with the first threshold value being greater than the second threshold value. The first adjustable scaling factor is increased and the second and third adjustable scaling factors are decreased if the sample signal level is higher than the first threshold value. The first adjustable scaling factor is decreased and the second and third adjustable scaling factors are increased if the sample signal level is lower than the second threshold value.

When the voltage source is present, the first contact and one of the two other contacts are in engagement with one of the voltage-source terminals, and the other contact, which is not in engagement with the first voltage-source terminal, is in engagement with the second voltage-source terminal. The first contact is connected to the first connection terminal of the electrical device and the second contact and the third contact are connected to, respectively, a first input (5a) and a second input (5b) of a FET circuit (5). The FET circuit has an output (5c) connected to the second connection terminal of the electrical device.

The control means (24) are embodied so as to increase a level of the first control signal (21) while simultaneously decreasing the level of the second control signal (23), or vice versa. The control means (24) may comprise a single control element (38), e.g. a variable resistor. In this way, the hearing instrument can easily be configured as a BILL or as a TILL or as a substantially linear hearing instrument.
