The present invention relates to a device (1) for compensating for chromatic dispersion, which includes: a multimode compensating optical fibre (3); an input converter (4), arranged such as to convert a first mode of a light beam into another mode for which the multimode compensating optical fibre (3) has negative chromatic dispersion properties, and then to inject, into the multimode compensating optical fibre (3), the light beam with said other mode; and an output converter (6), arranged such as to convert the other mode of the light beam from the multimode compensating optical fibre (3) into the first mode; characterised in that the input converter (4) and/or the output converter (6) include a multi-pass converter (7).
