    摘要： Apparatus for seaming an end E to an open end of a container body B in at least first and second seaming operations comprises a lifter pad to support the container body, a seaming chuck (2) to support the end in place on the container body, and an annular seaming tool having at least first and second annular seaming profiles (12, 13) on its inner surface which surrounds the end. The apparatus includes drive means for providing relative rolling movement between the seaming tool and the end in which the drive means drives the annular seaming tool to gyrate around the can end. Means are also provided for causing relative movement between the end and the annular seaming tool, from a first relative position in which the first seaming profile (12) can contact the end E to perform the first seaming operation, to at least a second relative position in which the second seaming profile (13) can contact the end E to perform the second seaming operation.

    摘要： A metal container has a bottom wall (2) and side wall (6) provided with a low relief pattern of shallow grooves (12) or creases to define outwardly convex panels (13). The grooves or creases have a depth between 0.3 and 3 % of the radius of the side wall which has a thickness between 3 and 30 % of the radius of grooves. A method and apparatus are described in which the pattern of grooves and panels is formed progressively by a pinch pressure imposed by a mandrel (30) inside the container body and an arcuate rail (24) provided with teeth (33) to define the grooves. Preferably the pinch pressure sets the cross-sectional shape of the groove pulling the panels to shape by elastic deformation.

    摘要： A closure (10) comprising a ferrous metal easy open food can end has a retention device (40) which engages the rear portion (38) of a ring-pull tab (30). The retention device (40) has a ledge (46) on which the tab sits and a hooked nipple (48) which passes around the inside of the ring-pull. The central panel (20) of the closure is recessed, particularly under the rear portion (38) of the tab, around the retention device (40). During processing of a container to which the closure is fixed, pressure building up inside the container causes the recessed parts (24, 25, 26) to flex outwardly, thus pushing the retention device (40) into further locking engagement with the tab (30). The tab is thus prevented from lifting and/or rotating during the processing procedure.
