    摘要： An apparatus and method for forming a cover about an article and for automatically fastening the cover to the article, and optionally for automatically placing a label on the covered article. The article may be an article such as a potted plant and the cover may be a decorative cover. The apparatus comprises a platform (130) having at least one opening (142) sized to allow passage therethrough of an article. A conveyable cover forming assembly (146) is supported on a conveying assembly (154). A sheet of material can be supported in a position generally over the opening. The article can be pushed into the cover forming assembly, causing the sheet to be formed into a cover about the article. The apparatus also comprises a tying device (170) for automatically applying a band or fastener about a portion of the outer surface of the covered article for fastening the cover about the article after the sheet is formed into a cover about the article. The apparatus may further comprise a sheet feeder, a pick and place apparatus, and an apparatus for automatically removing the covered article from the opening of the conveyable cover forming assembly.

    摘要： A cover forming apparatus for forming a flower pot or flower pot cover from a sheet of material by engaging a sheet of material about the outer surface of a mold, die, or pot. The cover forming apparatus includes a plurality of pivotable forming members resting in a surface which supports a sheet of material upon which is positioned a flower pot mold or flower pot. When the forming members are pivotally moved from the storage position to an extended position, the forming members cause the sheet of material to be appressed to or engaged with the mold or pot. The article formed in accordance with the present invention may be separable from the mold or pot and usable as a flower pot or flower pot cover or may be more or less securely attached to the pot by adhesive, cohesive, barbs, friction pinches, or other securing means thereby forming a decorative cover connected to a flower pot. The cover forming apparatus may be incorporated within a mobile platform enabling the cover forming apparatus to be moved from one location to another.

    摘要： A method and apparatus for stemming a flower in which the flower stem (31) is cut substantially simultaneously with attaching a flower pick (5) to the flower stem (31), thereby eliminating the separate steps of cutting the flower stem and subsequently attaching a stem pick by combining these two operations. In another aspect of the invention, the flower stem (31) is cut in an environment which displaces air from the region of the severed plant stem by submerging the portion of the plant stem in the region of severance underwater or by subjecting it to a flow of water or a spray of water or other material which would prevent formation of an air gap in the vascular tissue of the plant and/or skinning over of the tubules. The water or other material used for displacing air in the region of severance may contain a floral preservative or nutrient or bacteria stat or other material to help prolong the shelf life of the flower.
