摘要: A screen media (200) for use in screening pulp slurry has a first side (204) and a second side (206). The pulp slurry is fed from the first side of the screen media to the second side of said screen media through a plurality of screening passages (205). Each said screening passage includes a contour cut (210) formed in the first side, a back groove (208) formed in the second side, and a residual thickness (234) between the contour cut and the back groove. An elongate slot (235) is formed in the residual material, and the residual thickness has a substantially uniform thickness about the elongate slot. Where the slot extends completely through the residual material it defines a through-slit (236) through which slurry flows and is filtered.

摘要: A refiner disk or disk segment is cast from a stainless steel alloy having a composition of 0.2 percent to 0.4 percent carbon, 0.5 to 1.5 percent manganese, 0.5 percent to 1.5 percent silicon, a maximum of 0.05 percent sulfur, a maximum of 0.05 percent phosphorus, 14 percent to 18 percent chromium, 2 percent to 5 percent nickel, 2 percent to 5 percent copper, a maximum of 1 percent molybdenum, and 1.5 percent to 2.5 percent niobium, the balance being iron. The Niobium forms discrete carbides at high temperatures during the melting process. Upon cooling, the carbides are distributed evenly throughout the structure. This resultant alloy provides toughness and corrosion resistance like a lower carbon alloy plus increased wear resistance due to the carbide formation. The alloy utilizes chromium to impart corrosion resistance, the process of tying up carbon as discrete, non-chromium carbides increases the amount of chromium present to provide corrosion resistance.

摘要: The refiner plate of this invention has a pattern of interlocking or nested elements having a "I"s "T"s, "S"s, "L"s, "F"s, "E"s, or "H"s shape which form channels. The body of the elements forms the refiner bars (50) which hold the fibers as they move between the refiner plates in a disk refiner (20). The pattern of elements retard the flow of fibers while at the same time providing a large open area for steam to pass through the refiner disks (28, 30). The segments making up the elements produce a refiner bar (50) which is reinforced for higher strength. The shape of the elements has an increased edge length exposed to the flow of fibers.

摘要: An apparatus and method for screening wood pulp and other fibrous fluid suspensions. The apparatus and method relate to rebuildable, modular screen cylinders for screening thick pulp slurry in pulp and paper applications. The screen sections of the modular screen cylinder of the present invention are of a nonwelded construction. A lap joint according to the present invention is provided in each screen section connecting the ends of the individual sections when the screen sections are rolled into cylindrical shape. As a result, the lap joint of the current invention provides for a nonwelded, modular screen cylinder which is less expensive to manufacture and provides for increased wear life and durability as compared to similar screen baskets previously known.

摘要: A segment (134) for a rotary disk refiner (32) that has a refining surface (136) offset to compensate for deflection of the segment that occurs during refiner operation. In one preferred embodiment, the refining surface overlying each segment overhang (138) is offset to compensate for deflection that occurs in the region of the overhang during refiner operation. Other regions of the refining surface can also be offset to compensate for deflection. In another preferred embodiment, a mount (90') that extends outwardly from the backside of a segment has a hollow (162) therein to reduce segment mass to reduce refining surface deflection. In a method of making a deflection compensating segment, the location and magnitude of each region of deflection is analytically or experimentally determined and the refining surface is formed with a corresponding offset in each deflection region.

摘要: A pulp screening assembly where each support ring is weldlessly bonded to a perforate screen section by a bonding material that preferably is a brazing material. There is a joint between each ring and a screen section in which brazing material is disposed. The joint includes at least one set of mating faying surfaces that are offset relative to a longitudinal axis of the screening assembly. In a preferred embodiment, there is a tolerance between mated faying surfaces of no greater than 0.008 inches to ensure a good weldless bond is achieved. In another preferred embodiment, the tolerance is no greater than 0.004 inches. A weldless screen basket is produced having end rings, a plurality of slotted screen sections, and an intermediate ring having slots with back grooves within four millimeters of a ring at each end increasing screening open area.

摘要: A sensor, sensor disk, sensor measurement correction system, and method used in measuring a parameter in the refining zone. The sensor includes a spacer that spaces that spaces its sensing element from the disk. In one preferred embodiment, the spacer is made of an insulating material that insulates the sensing element from the thermal mass of the disk to prevent the thermal mass from affecting sensor measurement. The sensor includes a housing carried by the spacer that, in turn, carries the sensing element. Where the sensing element is a temperature sensing element, the housing is thermally conductive and the housing and spacer enclose the sensing element. Each sensor is disposed in the refining surface, preferably in its own separate bore in the disk and flush with or below axial refiner bar height. Signals from one or more sensors are processed by a processing device linked to a module containing calibration data that is applied to make sensor measurements more accurate. The module holds calibration data from sensors that are precalibrated before the sensor disk in which they are assembled is shipped, along with the module, to a fiber processing plant where the disk is installed in a refiner and the module connected to the processing device. In one preferred embodiment the sensor or sensors are carried by a sensor module that can be a removable segment of a refiner disk.

摘要: A refiner for refining material has a refiner disc arrangement whereby the outermost opposed refiner disc annuli (12, 14) have a particular corresponding refiner surface arrangement. A carrier element (30) has a mounting surface, a central axis, and defines a plane generally perpendicular to its axis of rotation. An annular first disc (12) is carried on the mounting surface concentrically relative to the central axis and has a first refiner surface facing outward relative to the mounting surface. A plurality of refiner bars protrudes axially from and extends generally radially along the refiner surface. A second carrier element (32) is spaced from and confronts the first carrier element (30) and has a second mounting surface thereon. An annular second disc (14) is carried on the second mounting surface concentrically relative to the central axis and has a second refiner surface confronting the first refiner surface. A plurality of second refiner bars protrudes axially from and extends generally radially along the second refiner surface. A refining plane (90) is defined between the first and second refining surfaces (12, 14) that is angled relative to the generally perpendicular plane (42) and provides a generally consistent width refining gap over a substantial portion of the refining surfaces.
