The invention relates to a selectively hydrogenated isoprene-styrene diblock copolymer having a polystyrene content of at least 40 wt. %, which when added to an oil-based mud composition, substantially reduces fluid loss. The polystyrene in the diblock has a true molecular weight greater than 60 kg/mole and the total apparent molecular weight of the diblock copolymer is at least 160 kg/mole. The drilling mud that contains about 0.5 pounds per barrel to about 10 pounds per barrel of a selectively hydrogenated isoprene-styrene diblock copolymer and a weighting agent, resulting in a drilling fluid composition exhibiting good suspension of the weighting agent and improved fluid loss performance.

The invention concerns an olefinically unsaturated radial styrenic block copolymer having the general formula A-B—Y—(B-A)n wherein each A is independently a polymer block composed of at least 90 mol. % of an alkenyl aromatic hydrocarbon, each B is independently a polymer block composed of at least 90 mol. % of one or more conjugated dienes, Y is the remnant of a coupling agent, and n is an integer from 2 to 5. The invention is also an improved vulcanizer-free latex comprising water and the olefinically unsaturated radial styrenic block copolymer. The present invention concerns aqueous emulsions and a process for preparing aqueous emulsions of a midblock sulfonated styrenic block copolymer comprising at least two non-sulfonated polymer end-blocks A and at least one sulfonated block B, comprising the steps of providing a cement of a midblock sulfonated styrenic block copolymer in the apolar solvent, mixing the cement with a co-solvent to form a mixture, emulsifying the mixture in the absence of a surfactant with water to produce an emulsion, and removing the hydrocarbon solvent and any optional co-solvent from the emulsion to produce the aqueous emulsion. The resulting emulsion of the midblock sulfonated styrenic block copolymer has relatively small particle diameters.

The present invention relates to elastic film formulations that have surprisingly high tensile strengths in addition to good viscosity stability and are based on a blend of two styrene block copolymers, namely, styrene-isoprene/butadiene-styrene and styrene- butadiene-styrene. The blend of these two styrenic block copolymers in the range set forth and described herein yield high tensile strength that is at least 50% higher than that of the prior art based styrenic block copolymers and have good viscosity stability. Moreover, the present invention relates to a blend of two different styrene block copolymers that can be made by dry blending the block copolymer components. Then the blend can be extruded into uncross-linked film, fiber, or plurality of fibers.

A thermofusible composition in the form of pellets and/or powder, with a particle size of 1400 μm or less comprising from about 40 to about 70 weight percent of a selectively hydrogenated styrenic block copolymer (HSBC), and from about 1 to about 30 weight percent of a butylene homopolymer, a butylene copolymer, or a combination of the butylene homopolymer and the copolymer, wherein the HSBC (i) is a linear or branched hydrogenated block copolymer having the general configuration A-B-A, (A-B) n , (A-B-A) n , (A-B-A) n X, (A-B) n X or mixtures thereof, where n is an integer from 2 to about 30, and X is coupling agent residue and wherein: a. prior to hydrogenation each A block is a mono alkenyl arene polymer block and each B block is a controlled distribution copolymer block of at least one conjugated diene and at least one mono alkenyl arene; b. subsequent to hydrogenation about 0-10% of the arene double bonds have been reduced, and at least about 90% of the conjugated diene double bonds have been reduced; c. each A block has a number average molecular weight from about 5.0 to about 7.5 kg/mol and, wherein the linear HSBC has a total number average molecular weight from about 70 to about 150 kg/mol and the branched HSBC has a total apparent number average molecular weight from about 35 to about 75 kg/mol per arm d. each B block comprises terminal regions adjacent to the A blocks that are rich in conjugated diene units and one or more regions not adjacent to the A blocks that are rich in mono alkenyl arene units; e. the total amount of mono alkenyl arene in the hydrogenated block copolymer is from about 20 to about 45 weight percent; f. the weight percent of mono alkenyl arene in each B block is from about 10 to about 40 weight percent; g. each B block has a styrene blockiness index of less than 10 percent; and h. the weight percent of vinyl in each B block is at least about 40 weight percent.
