The holding block receives a thumb screw and an engagement arm, the latter including a clamping head, which directly opposes the tube-receiving surface. The thumb screw is adapted to move the clamping head toward the tube-receiving surface to immobilize an airway tube therebetween, either by sliding the thumb screw (gross adjustment) or turning the thumb screw (fine adjustment). The thumb screw/clamping head is releasable by actuating a quick-release mechanism.

The accelerometer may be installed on a printed circuit board arranged at right angles on the pressure pad that is to be positioned on a patient's or manikin's chest, or the printed circuit board may be placed inside the manikin's chest. The pressure pad may be provided with markings on the top surface for guidance regarding placement on a patient's or a manikin's chest. The pressure pad or a unit connected to the pressure pad contains a calculation unit (B) for calculation of the compression depthin dependence on the acceleration values. The pressure pad may contain a separate information unit, for instance consisting of light-emitting diodes (LEDs), or the sensor unit may have an outlet that can be connected to a display unit such as a screen, for display of a curve showing compression depth(Sn) versus time, possibly together with other signals such as the ECG curve and inflation. Said outlet may in addition form an interface to a computer and/or a modem.

The present invention provides a CPR sensor that includes a thin and substantially flat flexible substrate having one or more sensor arrays, a power source, an output interface and a processor or analog circuit, all of which are disposed on the substantially flat flexible substrate. The substrate can be any shape (e.g., rectangular, circular, a polygon, an irregular shape that is decorative) and made from a polymer, metal film or other suitable material. Note that the substrate can be rigid or semi-flexible instead of flexible. A protective layer may cover the sensor array, the power source, and the processor or analog circuit. Alternatively, a protective covering can be used to encapsulate the device. The one or more sensor arrays measure one or more of the following compressions characteristics: compression depth, compression force, compression frequency and compression acceleration.
