    摘要： In order to provide a hand held lighter which is difficult to operate accidentally and which is difficult for children to operate, the hand held lighter comprises a fuel container 1 a fuel valve 9 for allowing fuel to be fed from the fuel container to an ignition point, a lever 4 for operating the fuel valve 9, a flint 5, a rotatably mounted sparking wheel 6 contacting the flint 5 and for generating sparks when the sparking wheel 6 is rotated, the sparks being projected to the ignition point. The lever has an operating surface, 10 for contacting a user's thumb or finger. The lighter defines an operating axis A passing tangentially to the sparking wheel at X and passing through the operating surface of the lever 4 at a point Y, at least part of the operating surface 10 of lever being inclined outwardly with respect to the axis A.

    摘要： The present invention provides a hand held lighter 1 comprising a fuel container 3, a fuel valve 4 for allowing fuel to be fed to an ignition point 12, and a piezoelectric ignition means 5 for igniting fuel fed to the ignition point. The fuel valve 4 and the ignition means 5 are operable by an operating body 6, 7 which is movable from a rest position in a first direction. A safety button 8 is provided which is movable at right angles to the first direction from a first, safety position in which the safety button blocks movement of the operating body, and a second, operating position in which the safety button allows movement of the operating body 7. In use, a user must move the safety button 8 from the first position to the second position to operate the operating body 7. When the operating body 7 is returned to its rest position, the safety button 8 is automatically returned to its first position.
    A second embodiment is disclosed in which a piezoelectric ignition mean 27 is provided for creating a spark at an ignition point 25 supplied with fuel by a fuel valve assembly 24, the fuel valve assembly 24 and the piezoelectric ignition means 27 being jointly operated by an operating body 29. The safety body 34 is provided, lying over the operating body 29. A safety body 34 has to be moved to the left, in the direction of arrow X to disengage an abutment 36 from the stop part 38 of the hand held lighter before the lighter can be used. The resilience of the safety body 34 returns it to its safety position after the lighter has been used.

    摘要： In order to provide hand held lighter which is relatively difficult to operate by accident or by children, the hand held lighter comprises safety features. The hand held lighter comprises a fuel container 1, a valve 2 for allowing fuel to be fed from the fuel container 1 to a nozzle 2A, a sparking wheel assembly 5 for contacting a flint and generating sparks for igniting fuel at the nozzle 2A. The valve 2 is operable by a lever 6. The lever 6 comprises, in succession, a valve contacting portion 6C, a fulcrum 6A and an operating portion 6B for contacting an operator's thumb or finger. The distance between the valve and the valve contacting portion 6C and the fulcrum 6A and the distance Y between the fulcrum 6A and the operating portion 6B is 1.1:1 or greater. By placing the operating portion 6B relatively close to the fulcrum, the force which has to be applied by a user is increased compared to conventional lighters. As a result, accidental operation or operation by children is made much harder. Further, the sparking wheel 5 is rigidly connected to side wheels 10 which have smooth edges and which have a diameter which is the same as the sparking wheel 5 or smaller than it. As a result, the force which is required to rotate the sparking wheel is higher, because of the smaller diameter of the side wheel which the user contacts. Further, there is tendency of the user finger or thumb to slip on the side wheels, making operation by children or by accident much harder.
