    摘要: A child-resistant lighter includes an actuator (7) and a latch member (8) coupled thereto. The latch member includes a finger actuation portion (92) and an integrally formed body portion (96) having a free end. In one embodiment, the latch member is pivotally coupled to the actuator. In an inoperative position, the free end of the latch member is aligned with a blocking surface (104) of the lighter body, preventing inadvertent lighting. In an operative position, the free end of the latch member is pivoted out of alignment with the blocking surface so that the lighter can function. During pivoting, as the finger actuation portion moves in a forward direction, the free end moves in a rearward direction. The latch member may be disposed on the rear wall of the actuator or in a longitudinally extending channel in the actuator.

    摘要: In order to provide hand held lighter which is relatively difficult to operate by accident or by children, the hand held lighter comprises safety features. The hand held lighter comprises a fuel container 1, a valve 2 for allowing fuel to be fed from the fuel container 1 to a nozzle 2A, a sparking wheel assembly 5 for contacting a flint and generating sparks for igniting fuel at the nozzle 2A. The valve 2 is operable by a lever 6. The lever 6 comprises, in succession, a valve contacting portion 6C, a fulcrum 6A and an operating portion 6B for contacting an operator's thumb or finger. The distance between the valve and the valve contacting portion 6C and the fulcrum 6A and the distance Y between the fulcrum 6A and the operating portion 6B is 1.1:1 or greater. By placing the operating portion 6B relatively close to the fulcrum, the force which has to be applied by a user is increased compared to conventional lighters. As a result, accidental operation or operation by children is made much harder. Further, the sparking wheel 5 is rigidly connected to side wheels 10 which have smooth edges and which have a diameter which is the same as the sparking wheel 5 or smaller than it. As a result, the force which is required to rotate the sparking wheel is higher, because of the smaller diameter of the side wheel which the user contacts. Further, there is tendency of the user finger or thumb to slip on the side wheels, making operation by children or by accident much harder.

The action of depressing the button is laborsaving and convenient, and the path of the button is effectively controlled. The possibility of the ignition of the inflammable gas as a result of directly depressing the button or the gas leakage as a result of depressing the button by the external force is avoided. The maloperation is prevented, and the difficulty for the children to operate is increased, and the safety performance of the lighter is improved.
