摘要: The present invention relates to a method of working up and recovering returned explosives which are principally of the military type and which contain both fusible and non-fusible crystalline substances. In accordance with the invention, the returned explosive is treated in a multi-stage process which includes a first leaching stage for removing the non-crystalline, preferably fusible, component of the explosive in the form of trotyl, wax or plastic. The substance used in the leaching stage, principally toluene, does not affect the crystalline components of the explosive. The collected leaching liquid is separated off and the toluene, together with its dissolved content of trotyl or wax, is conveyed onwards for working up. The toluene which is recovered during the working up is returned to the process while the remaining filtrate from the filtration stage is treated with solvent which dissolves the crystalline high-energy explosives octogen and hexogen, respectively, which are relevant in this connection, which explosives, in a subsequent process stage, are precipitated out in the form of new crystals which, after a possible recrystallization, are ready to be reused. The solvent which is used in this connection is returned to the process.

摘要: There is provided a decoppering agent that is incorporated into the propellant to remove copper from the rifling of the internal bore of a gun barrel. The decoppering agent consists essentially of a lead-free pulverized additive mixed together with the other propellant compounds. We have found that a mixture of tin and bismuth is a very good decoppering agent. Especially in the ratio 42% Sn/58%Bi, the melting point for this combination is 138 degree C. Much lower than each of the components. It can be all kinds of suitable tin and bismuth compounds. The bismuth and tin either vaporizes or liquefies when the propellant is ignited and either embrittles or dissolves the copper deposits facilitating removal.

摘要: The present invention relates to a method and a device for producing perforated propellant in the geometric form of block, stick, slab, cylindrical or tubular propellant (2) with high charge density and high progressivity. The propellant as claimed in the present invention is characterised by a large number of perforations, densely and evenly distributed over the entire propellant segments, made by perforation members (6) that are pressed down into the propellant. The perforations are thereby made in a plurality of steps with a predetermined step feed between each perforation operation. The device as claimed in the present invention also comprises a mobile pin die (5) away from but facing the feed path (1) for the propellant (2), and containing at least one row of pins for perforation of the propellant whereby each such row of pins comprises the number of pins (6) required to cover the complete width of the propellant segment across its direction of advance. Between each perforation operation the propellant is step fed by a step feed device (15) a distance equivalent to the distance between two desired perforations multiplied by the number of rows of pins arranged across the direction of advance of the propellant. Additionally, in the propellant as claimed in the present invention the distance between two burning surfaces of the propellant shall be equal to double the desired burning length (2b).
