An endothelin activity inhibitor containing a peptide containing such a part of the amino acid sequence of a human endothelin receptor as will correspond to the region wherein at least 80 % of the amino acid residues are complementary to each other when the amino acid sequence estimated on the basis of the cDNA of a human endothelin receptor is compared with the one estimated on the basis of the cDNA of a human endothelin precursor, an analog thereof, and a conjugate thereof with a macromolecule or a macromolecular peptide. The inhibitor can be provided at a low cost and has a relatively low melecular weight, so that it can be used not only as a reagent for detecting endothelins but also as a remedy for various diseases wherein endothelins participate.
