The beam from the light source is reflected 90 degrees from along the axis along a radial to the medium and the rotation and translation cause the beam to scan the medium such that the rotating light beam is at all times perpendicular to the medium at the point of contact of the beam with the medium.

    摘要: A radiation image read-out method and apparatus for a stimulable phosphor sheet, provided with a layer of stimulable phosphor, which has been exposed to radiation to carry information about an image, and the image is thereby stored on the stimulable phosphor sheet. The method includes the steps of : exposing the stimulable phosphor sheet to stimulating rays to emit light in proportion to the amount of energy stored thereon during its exposure to radiation ; sensing the emitted light to generate a detection signal ; amplifying the detection signal using a first amplifier or a second amplifier, dependent on the magnitude of the detection signal, to generate an amplified detection signal, the first amplifier differing from the second amplifier ; and converting the amplified detection signals into a degital signal to form a digital image. In a preferred embodiment, the first and second amplifiers are logarithmic and linear amplifiers.

    摘要: A method of scanning a sample responsive to stimulating radiation by providing stimulated radiation to the sample along a scanning path that includes more than one pass over at least a portion of the sample. The method includes the steps of performing two read-outs at a particular intensity stimulating radiation. A first read-out of the sample is performed with a the intensity stimulating radiation to produce a first image signal having information representing a first exposure image. A second read-out of the sample is performed with the intensity stimulating radiation to produce a second image signal having information representing a second exposure image. The first and second image signals are then combined to form a third image signal representative of the image stored on the sample.

    摘要: For use with an optical scanning device, a reading head (40) comprising a housing (41, 83) having at least one bore (42, 84, 84') for accommodating therein a respective photo-multiplier tube (43, 81, 82) and a non-intersecting lateral bore (44, 85) for accommodating therein a stimulating light source (45, 86) for producing a stimulating beam having a first wavelength. A focusing lens (46, 91) is mounted in association with the stimulating light source for focusing the stimulating beam on a film (92) of the scanning device so as to produce stimulated fluorescent light having a second wavelength in the film at a point of contact by the stimulating beam. A window (50, 88) is provided within the housing for mounting therein a filter (51, 89, 90) for transmitting therethrough the stimulated fluorescent light whilst substantially blocking reflections of the stimulating beam. The housing is mounted in spaced relationship with the film so as to direct the stimulating light beam perpendicular to the film such that the distance from the film to an internal periphery of the lateral bore within the housing is equal to a focal length of the focusing lens, and the stimulating light source is fixed within the lateral bore so that the focusing lens is in precise registration with the internal periphery.
