摘要： A wet blend containing tobacco particles and a binder is extruded under conditions such that steam is generated within the material upon extrusion and effects foaming. To minimize the amount of water used, which may subsequently have to be dried off, the binder is pre-hydrated by mixing with water before being mixed with the tobacco particles. To improve the consistency of the hydrated binder a small proportion of tobacco particles can be mixed with the binder before hydration or part of the binder can be mixed dry with the tobacco particles, leaving an excess of water for admixture with the rest of the binder.

摘要： A sheet of material is passed through meshing rotary shearing and forming dies to form rows of convolutions 16 which in each row are separated by an undeformed neutral zone N between each pair of adjacent convolutions. The rows are staggered so that the peak of a convolution in one row coincides with the troughs in adjacent rows and vice versa but the neutral zones coincide to maintain the integrity of the expanded web. The expanded web 12 can then be laminated to a plane sheet 11. The resulting structure is useful as a cigarette wrapper which is wrapped around a tobacco rod through which the longitudinal air flow is as shown by the arrow. The dimensions and periodicity of the convolutions can be adjusted to control air flow through the wrapper.

摘要： A pocket-sized roll-your-own cigarette maker (10) is disclosed. The cigarette maker includes one or more elements (12) defining a tobacco chamber (14) to receive a charge of tobacco to be made into a single cigarette, and a mandrel (16) which serves as a form for making a cigarette wrapper into a papertubeto receive the tobacco charge. The mandrel includes a tamping device for tamping the charge of tobacco into the proper shape and into place in the paper tube. A tongue member may be provided on the tamping device to aid in moving the tobacco charge into the tube. A stop element (42) may also be provided to hold the paper tube in place adjacent the tobacco chamber to receive the charge of tobacco.
