The invention relates to a method for removing deposits from water transmission systems and devices for supplying water, or individual components thereof. Deposits are dissolved using an aqueous treating solution and are separated in dissolved form from the system or the device or individual components thereof, wherein said deposits are dissolved using an aqueous treatment solution comprising a combination of (i) a reducing agent, in particular in the form of a salt-like, reducing sulfur-oxide compound, nitrogen oxide compound or phosphorous oxide compound and (ii) a complexing agent having phosphonic acid or phosphonate groups or a complexing agent of the hydroxy acid type at pH values in the range of approximately 4.5 to 9.5, in particular from approximately 6.0 to 8.0.
