A synergistic microbicidal composition having two components. The first component is a nonionic surfactant with structure: R 1 O(CH 2 CH(CH 3 )O) 5 (CH 2 CH 2 O) 9 H, where R 1 is a C 8 alkyl group. The second component is phenoxyethanol. The weight ratio of the nonionic surfactant to 2-decylthioethylamine is from 1:1 to 1:18.2766. Alternatively, the first component is a nonionic surfactant with structure: R 2 O(CH 2 CH(CH 3 )O) 3 (CH 2 CH 2 O) x H, where R 2 is a mixture of C 8 -C 14 linear alkyl groups and x is 5 or 7. The second component is phenoxyethanol. In this case, the weight ratio of the nonionic surfactant to phenoxyethanol is from 1:0.1999 to 1:36.5897.

Storage stable polyhydroxylated aromatic ether adducts of polyalkylene oxide are described. Reactive compositions are formed by combining an ether adduct with an aldehyde, optionally further adding a phenolic-aldehyde prepolymer. The reactive compositions are cured by removing water, by acidification, or both. The cured compositions sorb solvated compounds from environments containing water. The cured compositions are also useful for pre-loading with compounds that are subsequently released at a controlled rate into environments containing water.

Contaminants are filtered from a fluid flow stream and the filter is regenerated by a process including steps of: providing a filter material comprising both carbon and potassium iodide; passing a contaminated fluid stream in contact with the filter material; adsorbing contaminants from the fluid stream onto surfaces in the filter material; passing an electric current through the filter material with adsorbed contaminant thereon; disassociating contaminant from the surfaces of the filter material; and removing disassociated contaminant from the filter material by carrying away the disassociated contaminant in a fluid flow mass. Separately, a stable, active iodine solution is also provided for numerous deodorizing and disinfecting applications.

A method of removing food soils from a recirculated washing solution includes adding a flocculating agent to the recirculated washing solution and separating the particulates from the recirculated washing solution using a hydrocyclone. The flocculating agent causes a portion of the food soils to combine into particulates having a higher density.
