    摘要: A burnishing liquid used in a physicochemical mass finishing process serves to chemically remove the conversion coating as well as to promote brightness of the treated metal surface. The burnishing liquid has a very low content of organic constituent and therefore a low chemical oxygen demand characteristic. The burnishing liquid comprises a water-soluble tetrapyrophosphate or hexametaphosphate and has a pH of about 8.5 to 10.5.

    摘要: The invention provides a composition for addition to water to provide an aqueous solution that is effective for use in the physico-chemical refinement of magnetic stainless steel surfaces said composition comprising, in a major amount, an acid ingredient consisting at least predominantly of oxalic acid and, in a minor amount, an accelerating ingredient consisting essentially of a sulfur-­containing compound such as a thiocyanate salt; and a nitrobenzene compound oxidising agent such as m-nitrobenzene sulfonic acid, said composition being at least substantially completely soluble in water at 20° Centrigrade, in amounts of said composition of up to 10 percent by weight of water. Advantageously the compositions can contain a hydroxyalkylamine surfactant containing 2 to 4 carbon atoms and a poly(oxyethylene)alkyl alcohol surfactant. Also provided are solutions containing the said compositions and processes for refining magnetic stainless steel surfaces using such solutions.

The maximum concentration of the peroxide is controlled to avoid inhibiting or arresting the reaction with the metal; maintaining a minimum concentration prevents excessive metal dissolution, pitting and other undesirable surface defects.

    摘要: A composition for use in the process of mass finishing of metal surfaces of objects, normally in a vibratory finishing process, utilizes a combination of oxalic acid, sodium nitrate, and hydrogen peroxide. The maximum concentration of the latter in an aqueous solution used in the process is limited to a value (0.05 gram mole/l) at which excessive dissolution of metal and pitting of the surface are avoided while, at the same time, cooperating with the nitrate to effect a substantial increase in the processing rate. Highly refined surfaces are achieved using the process in relatively short p eriods of time.
