A unique sequence of steps is provided to reduce contaminants along one or more surfaces and faces of gold evaporative sources without deleteriously impacting the structure of the gold evaporative sources. Edges are deburred; contaminants are successfully removed therealong; and surface smoothness is substantially retained. The resultant gold evaporative source is suitable for use in evaporative processes as a precursor to gold film deposition without the occurrence or a substantial reduction in the likelihood of spitting by virtue of significantly reduced levels of contaminants, in comparison to gold evaporative sources subject to a standard cleaning protocol.

An accessory drive component (20) is coupled to the gearbox. The gearbox is arranged radially between the gas turbine engine and a nacelle (34) that is arranged about the gas turbine engine. A gear is supported by the gearbox and configured to transmit rotational drive to the accessory drive component. The gear includes an iron alloy having a strength of approximately 1900 MPa or greater and a shear fracture toughness of 130 MPa m or greater in one example. The gears have teeth with a case hardness of approximately 44 HRC or greater. The teeth have a surface finish of less than 16 µ/in, (16 µm/25.4mm).

The method envisages the preparation of a polishing mixture (13), which is then brought into contact with the surface of the cavity (14) to be polished, the polishing mixture (13) being moved, for a preset time, relative to the surface to be polished. The polishing mixture (13) is advantageously inserted in the cavity (14) in the part (12), which is an element for containing the polishing mixture (13). The present invention also relates to a composition of the present polishing mixture (13).
