A tool comprises a plug (10) for fitting in a pipe end. A screw (12) is threaded in the plug (10) for advancement into the pipe. An arm (14) is pivotted with respect to the screw (12) and biassed towards the outside of the pipe. A cutter disc (20) is fast on the arm (14) and provided with a peripheral slot (22) leaving an edge (24) for cutting the outside of the pipe. The slot (22) extends over only a portion of the thickness of the disc (20) nearer the end of the pipe. The tool is suitable for removing a thin layer from the outside of a plastics pipe before thermofusion.
