摘要： Apparatus for cleaning the read/write head of a drive unit for a jacketted flexible magnetic disc comprises a thin substantially square jacket (10), having, in register on each side, a central aperture (11) and a slot (12) which extends radially from adjacent the central aperture in a direction towards and normal to the rear edge (13) of the jacket. The jacket contains a double-sided cleaning element (14) having a pair of opposite cleaning surfaces of which a portion of each is exposed by a respective slot. The cleaning surfaces comprise respective layers (15) of cleaning material secured together via an intermediate layer (16) of a material which is impermeable to magnetic head cleaning fluid.

摘要： A mechanism for intermittently wetting a cleaning tape (13) contained within a tape cassette housing (11) is located within the housing at a position along the tape path prior to the tape exit (14) in the direction of forward motion of the tape. The mechanism comprises a star wheel (21) rotatably mounted adjacent the inside surface (24) of the cleaning tape whose arms (23) are driven by friction with the tape to rotate the star wheel, and a lever (22) pivotted adjacent the same surface of the tape as the star wheel, the lever being intermittently deflected in a first direction of rotation by engagement with successive arms (23) of the star wheel as the star wheel rotates during forward motion of the tape. A wetting member (20) is mounted adjacent the outside surface of the tape opposite the lever, and each arm (23) of the star wheel during its engagement with the lever (22) effects sufficient deflection of the lever in the first direction of rotation that the lever bears against and deflects the tape (13) outwardly to such an extent that the outer surface of the tape is brought to bear against the wetting member (20). The lever (22) has sufficient resilience to permit each arm (23) to disengage the lever during further rotation of the star wheel (21) after the tape has been brought to bear on the wetting member, whereby the lever (22) returns in the opposite direction of rotation for re-engagement of the first portion by the next arm.

摘要： A cleaning apparatus for a video player/recorder (video unit) includes a cassette housing (8) which can substitute for a conventional video tape cassette and which includes a cleaning ribbon (9) wound on a pair of spools (10, 11). The video unit includes a shut-off mechanism of conventional type comprising a light source and first and second shut-off devices (37,38), the former being normally responsive to light through a clear leader at the end of the video tape to effect halting of the tape in the forward direction and automatic rewind, and the latter being normally responsive to light through a clear leader at the beginning of the video tape to effect halting of the tape in the reverse direction. The shut-off mechanism is used by the cleaning apparatus to define a cleaning cycle, to which end the cassette housing (8) of the cleaning apparatus includes a shutter (34) which is rotatably driven by one of the spools (11) and surrounds the light source of the shut-off mechanism. At the beginning of the cleaning cycle neither shut-off device (37, 38) receives light from the source. During the cleaning cycle the shutter (34) is rotated by the spool (11) and at an intermediate point in the cycle an aperture (41) in the shutter (34) permits light to fall on the second shut-off device (38) to inhibit automatic rewind. The cleaning cycle is complete when light falls on the first shut-off device (37) through an aperture (40) in the shutter (34), the light remaining on the second shut-off device (38).

Each cylinder is restrained against rotation by brushing contact with a disc but is capable of manual rotation to bring a different portion of its surface below the housing to provide a fresh cleaning surface. A knob is rotatably mounted at the top of the housing (10), and is constrained to rotate substantially in a single direction only thereby permitting only a single direction of rotation of the housing (10). At least one of the cleaning surfaces (12) is conductive and is electrically connected via a sliding contact to a conductive part of the knob.

摘要： @ A cleaning apparatus for a record disc (17) comprises a support member (10) having a top side (11) and a bottom side (12). Locating means (13, 15) is provided for locating the support member relative to the centre of a record disc (17). A knob (40) is mounted on the top side of the support member for rotation about an axis offset from the locating means whereby the support member may be manually rotated about the centre of the record disc (17). A holder (24, 25) for a cleaning pad (35) is mounted on the bottom side of the support member also for rotation about an axis offset from the locating means. A drive mechanism (43, 22, 23) comprising a step-up gear is provided to couple the knob (40) and the pad holder together such that rotation of the knob relative to the support member causes rotation of the pad holder relative to the support member. The knob (40) is hollow and the drive mechanism comprises a circular set of teeth (43) arranged around the internal periphery of the knob coaxially with the axis of rotation of the knob, and a gear wheel (22) fixed relative to the pad holder coaxially with the axis of rotation of the pad holder, the gear wheel being driven by the teeth (43) on the internal periphery of the knob. The cleaning pad (35) has a circular cleaning portion (37) which n use imparts a generally radially cleaning action on the record disc (17).
