The tool comprises a housing (24) defining a chamber (26), the chamber having at least one outlet (28), a propellant source (34) located within the chamber an ignition mechanism (46) for igniting the propellant source; and a control mechanism (52). Upon ignition of the propellant source (34), the propellant source is operable to deflagrate, creating at least one stream of combustion products, the chamber (26) directing the/each stream of combustion products through the/each outlet (28), towards the tubular (12) to be manipulated, at least one parameter of the/each stream of combustion products being changeable by the control mechanism (52).

    摘要: A tool (10) for manipulating a material includes a body defining a chamber (22) and at least one propellant source (26) located within the chamber (22). At least one nozzle (24) having an inlet and an outlet, is in selective fluid communication with the chamber (22). At least one mechanism (38) is provided for igniting the/each propellant source, creating a combustion zone (42) on the propellant source (26). At least one of the propellant sources (26) is configured to combust upon ignition to deflagrate and release a combustion jet. The chamber (22) includes an opening mechanism configured to prevent fluid communication between the chamber and the/each nozzle inlet until pressure in the chamber reaches a threshold pressure, higher than the environmental pressure, whereupon the combustion jet flows into the/each nozzle inlet, the combustion jet then flowing out of the tool through the/each nozzle outlet towards, and into engagement with, a material to be manipulated.
