摘要: A method of initiating a change in a target (14), includes providing at least one propellant source (12), igniting at least one of the propellant source(s) to form a combustion zone (20), and directing at least one combustion products jet (228) generated at the combustion zone (20) along at least one flow path (30). The method further comprises the step of providing at least one additive, the additive being provided in the at least one propellant source (12) or introduced to the at least one combustion products jet (228). The additive or additives adhere to the target (14). A tool (10) for carrying out the method is also provided.

The chamber (22) includes an opening mechanism configured to prevent fluid communication between the chamber and the/each nozzle inlet until pressure in the chamber reaches a threshold pressure, higher than the environmental pressure, whereupon the combustion jet flows into the/each nozzle inlet, the combustion jet then flowing out of the tool through the/each nozzle outlet towards, and into engagement with, a material to be manipulated.
