Process for the gas-phase polymerization of olefins of the formula CH₂=CHR in which R is hydrogen or an alkyl or aryl radical with 1 to 8 carbon atoms carried out in one or more reactors having a fluidized or mechanically agitated bed, using a catalyst obtained by reaction of a titanium halide or haloalcoholate and optionally an electron-donor compound supported on an active Mg dihalide with an Al-trialkyl compound and optionally an electron-donor compound, comprising the steps of: a) contacting the catalyst components in the absence of the olefin; b) prepolymerizing propylene or mixtures of propylene with minor amounts of ethylene or an alpha-olefin to form a propylene polymer with an insolubility in xylene of at least 60% by weight, in an amount of from 0.5 to 1000 g per g solid catalyst component; and c) polymerizing one or more CH₂=CHR olefins in the gas phase in the presence of the prepolymer-catalyst system obtained in b) while maintaining in the gas phase an alkane in a molar concentration with respect to the olefin of from 20 to 80%.

A process for the preparation of an ethylene/1-butene or ethylene/1-butene/diene elastomer by slurry polymerization of the monomers in a polymerization medium consisting mainly of an excess of the 1-butene maintained in liquid form, performed in the presence of a catalyst based on a metallocene compound of Ti, Zr or Hf. This process is exempt from occurrence of reactor fouling and enables the recovery of the polymer without the use of steam as a stripping agent.

Described are polypropylene compositions which are particularly suitable for the preparation of foamed articles and which comprise a mixture of a) 3 to 75% by weight of crosslinked polypropylene b) 97 to 25% by weight of not crosslinked polypropylene having an intrinsic viscosity of from 0.5 to 1.3 dl/g; which is characterized by a M.I. (230°C, 2.16 kg) of from 0.001 to 600 kg/10' and a dispersion of the crosslinked polypropylene in the not crosslinked polypropylene in the form of gels. Also disclosed is a process for the preparation of the above compositions.

Described are polyolefinic compositions endowed with a high impact strength, comprising:
a) 35-45% by weight of an ethylene-propylene copolymer containing from 4 to 10% by weight of ethylene and exhibiting a melt flow rate of 10 to 20 g/10 minutes at 230°C and 2.16 kg; b) 35-45% by weight of an ethylene-propylene copolymer containing from 4 to 10% by weight of ethylene and exhibiting a M.F.R. of 35 to 45 g/10 minutes at 230°C and 2.16 kg; c) 10-30% by weight of an ethylene/propylene/ (diene) elastomer containing from 40 to 55% by weight of propylene and from 0 to 5% by weight of a diene monomer, which is amorphous under X-ray diffraction and is characterized by: - (α₂ + α₄) higher than 16% - (R₁ x R₂) lower than 0.5 - M w /M n lower than 3 - Mooney viscosity (ML 1 + 4, 100°C) from 30 to 38 - /η/ from 1.5 to 2 dl/g, measured in tetrahydronaphthalene at 135°C.
