The methods comprise administering an effective amount of a protective agent comprising methionine or a methionine-like moiety to said patient prior to, simultaneously with, or subsequently to exposure to radiation or administration of a platinum-containing anti-tumor compound. Combinations of these time periods can also be employed.

A multicaloric alloy material combines two isostructural compounds, the first compound being MnNiSi and the second compound being either MnFeGe or CoFeGe, each such compound having extremely different magnetic and thermo-structural properties. The resulting alloy material (MnNiSi)1-x(MnFeGe)x or (MnNiSi)1-x(CoFeGe)x possesses extraordinary magnetocaloric and/or barocaloric properties with an acute sensitivity to applied pressure and no appreciable magnetic hysteresis losses.

Dans un procédé de phosphite transversal pour la préparation de polynucléotides, on fait réagir un nucléocide à résine réactive 5' avec un réactif de phosphore bifonctionnel (III) pour produire un intermédiaire de nucléosidophosphore de résine monofonctionnelle (III). Cet intermédiaire est condensé avec un nucléoside bloqué 5' par le réactif 3' pour produire un dinucléosidophosphite. Novel small expressed microRNA molecules associated with physiological regulatory mechanisms and particularly in developmental control are provided herein. More particularly, the present invention relates to microRNA molecules that suppress cancerous cell growth and other cancer-related disorders by suppressing tumor promoting factors such as, for example, Ubc9. Further, it is contemplated that the use of the microRNA molecules hereof will improve the diagnoses, prevention and/or treatment and also the identification and development of pharmaceuticals that are effective in connection with cancer cell growth.

An intermetallic bonded diamond composite composition and methods of processing such a composition are provided by the present invention. The intermetallic bonded diamond composite composition preferably comprises a nickel aluminide (Ni3AI) binder and diamond particles dispersed within the nickel aluminide (Ni3AI) binder. Additionally, the composite composition has a processing temperature of at least about 1 ,200° C and is processed such that the diamond particles remain intact and are not converted to graphite or vaporized by the high-temperature process. Methods of forming the composite composition are also provided that generally comprise the steps of milling, pressing, and sintering the high-temperature intermetallic binder and diamond particles.
