The invention pertains to a device and process for monitoring a scuba dive wherein the pressure in an air tank of scuba gear and the ambient pressure to which the diver is subjected at any depth are measured. A decompression calculating device is used to determine the decompression stops the diver must make in coming to the surface and how long the process of rising to the surface will take. A performance characteristic value is derived from the change in pressure in the air tank over time, thus providing a measure for physical work output performed by the diver. This performance characteristic value is fed to the decompression calculating device and taken into account in the calculation of decompression stops and total ascent time.

A monitoring device for portable breathing apparatus has a manometer that detects the pressure in the pressure reservoir (5) of the breathing apparatus and an emitter (2) that emits at regular intervals a signal that corresponds to the pressure. The emitter further has a signal generator that generates an identification signal charactheristic for the emitter. The pressure signal and the identification signal are received and checked by a receiver (3). When the identification signal matches an identification comparison signal stored in the receiver, the pressure measurement value is displayed on a display (4).

A device for monitoring the air pressure in pneumatic tyres comprises a transmitting device fitted to each wheel of a vehicle and rotating with it, and a receiver which is built into the vehicle or accommodated in a separate housing. The transmitting device mounted in the wheel comprises a pressure gauge for measuring the tyre pressure, a transmitter and a signal generator which generates an identification signal unique to each transmitter and transmitted before or after the pressure signal. The receiver processes received signals only when the identification signal received matches a reference identification signal stored in the receiver. This facilitates reliable operation of the monitoring device and prevents false alarms.
