摘要： A pipe handling machine (28) for moving well pipes (13) arranged essentially horizontally and essentially parallel to one another on a deck (12), and including a carriage which may contain an operator's control cabin and is mounted by tracks (30, 130) for movement tranversely of the pipes (13), with an arm projecting from the carriage and adapted to support a pipe (13) from one of its ends as a cantilever, and with the arm being power actuable upwardly and downwardly to raise and lower a pipe (13) and in its elevated position shift the pipe (13) laterally with the carriage. The arm may deliver the pipe (13) to or receive it from an inclined conveyor (29) leading to the rig floor (19). Preferably, two such machines (28, 31) are provided for shifting pipes (13) on two storage decks (12, 22) at different levels, and for delivering pipes (19) to or from an intermediate conveyor system (25, 128) extending between the two decks (12, 22).

摘要： A lifting head having a gate arm (47), and a latch arm (63), pivotally secured to a frame (11). A clamping block (83), also mounted on the frame, is movable between a retracted position away from the drill collar and an extended position against the drill collar. A plurality of gripping inserts (95,97) are located on the clamping block and on the gate arm. Each insert has a body and a plurality of teeth (103). The bodies of the inserts may be vertical or angled, but the teeth of the inserts are angled with respect to the longitudinal axis of the drill collar. This allows the inserts to grip the drill collar, even if the lifting head grips the collar at a place having a spiral groove.

摘要： Apparatus for use during connection of a length of pipe (14") to the upper end of a drill string (14), preferably in a top drive drilling arrangement, and including a back-up tool (107) for retaining the upper end of the drill string (14) against rotation as the added length of pipe (14") is connected threadedly thereto. A stabbing unit (121) associated with the back-up tool (107) acts to locate the additional length op pipe (14") while it is connected to the string (14), and is mounted for movement with the back-up tool (107) between the active and inactive positions of the latter, and also for movement relative to the back-up tool (107), in the active position of that tool (107), between an extended position for engaging and holding the additional length of pipe (14") at a location offset laterally with respect to the back-up tool (107) and a stabbing position locating the additional length of pipe (14") in alignment with the back-up tool (107) for connection to the string (14).

摘要： A well tool and method for making up and breaking out connections between sections of drill pipe. The tool will jump the upper pipe section out of the connection when the connection has been completely unthreaded, and will guide the upper pipe section during stabbing. A piston and cylinder assembly is mounted on the carriage for raising and lowering the pipe spinner relative to the carriage. The tool also has an actuator and a pilot valve for automatically opening the clamping cylinders of the spinner whenever the upper pipe section is raised by the pipe elevator.

摘要： A joint for securing tubular pin and box sections together, including a locking member (35) carried by the box section and tightenable laterally against the pin section by an actuating element (48) which is connected threadedly to the box section and is rotatable by a rotary driving part (63) adapted to be turned by a tool (74), with the joint including holding means for releasably retaining the driving part (63) against rotation. A fastener (51) for securing the actuating element (48) rotatably to the locking member (35) can be detached from the locking member (35) by a tool extending through an opening in the driving part (63) and through a spring (68) which yieldingly urges the driving part (63) to its locking position.
