摘要: A machine for stacking sheets into bundles comprises:
a stacking area; at least one overhead conveyor (50) arranged above said stacking area; suction means for drawing successive sheets into contact with an underside of said at least one overhead conveyor (50); and means for disengaging said sheets from said at least one overhead conveyor (50) wherein in use successive sheets are drawn into contact with said underside of said at least one overhead conveyor (50) and conveyed to a predetermined stacking position whereupon said sheets are disengaged from said at least one overhead conveyor (50) and fall to form a bundle of stacked sheets in said stacking area. There is also provided a machine for stacking sheets into a plurality separate stacks comprising:
    (a) conveyor means for successively conveying individual sheets into a stacking area; (b) first and second sets of support fingers extending horizontally in said stacking area; (c) said support fingers having lengths sufficient to support the entire weight of said stacks; (d) means for moving said first set of support fingers horizontally between a retracted position and an extended stacking position; (e) means for moving said second set of support fingers horizontally between a retracted position and an extended stacking position; (f) means for moving said first set of support fingers vertically; and (g) means for moving said second set of support fingers vertically so as to sequentially support the full weight of said stacks on said first and second sets of support fingers.

摘要: A paperboard processing machine (10) is disclosed for printing and otherwise processing sheets of paperboard (12), such as corrugated container blanks, and in which the sheets are conveyed from one section of the machine to another section by one or more vacuum transfer systems (16). Each vacuum transfer system (16) comprises an enclosure which is closed by a closure plate (40) for creating a subatmospheric pressure, which pressure forces the sheets into frictional engagement with the reaches of a plurality of conveyor belts (34) whereby the sheets are transported without contact of the opposite side of the sheet not contacted by the conveyor reach. In one embodiment the closure plate (40) is imperforate, while in the second embodiment the closure plate is provided with a limited number of apertures for providing a secondary flow of air upwardly against the bottom surfaces of the paperboard sheets. In addition, in one preferred embodiment, a plurality of slots are provided in the closure plate (40) for reducing the inflow of air at the entrance and exit ends (45) of the transfer section.

摘要: A sheet (64) processing apparatus, for example for flexographic printing and die-cutting of corrugated paperboard container blanks, has first and second successive processing sections (14, 18) connected by a transfer section (16). The sheets are successively passed through the various sections in positional registrations therewith. A sensor (40) senses a sheet while in the transfer section (16) and provides a signal representative of the positional registration of the sheet in the transfer section. A computer system (50) determines from the signal whether the sheet would enter the second section (18) in correct positional registration for processing by the second section, and adjusts as necessary the positional registration of the sheet (64) while in the transfer section to cause the sheet to enter the second section (18) in correct positional registration therewith. Preferably, the transfer section (16) is a vacuum conveyor (41) independently driven by one or more electric servo motors (38), the conveyor being both accelerated and decelerated to adjust sheet registration.
