The second conveyer has a region (S) overlapping with the first conveyer at least for a distance corresponding to a dimension of the sheet, e.g. the width of veneer sheet, as measured in the sheet conveying direction. A suction mechanism (4) is disposed in said overlapping region for transferring by suction the sheet in the entirety of its dimension from the first conveyer to the second conveyer and holding by suction the sheet against the second conveyer. The sheet is further moved by the second conveyer, e.g. to a sheet stacking station (10).

Zur Lösung dieser Aufgabe wird vorgeschlagen, wenigstens eine erste und eine zweite Saugwalze (21,22), die rotierend antreibbar und mit Saugluft zum Halten der Flachmaterialstücke (E) an ihren Umfangsflächen beaufschlagbar sind, sowie wenigstens eine erste und eine zweite Ablage (31,32) zur Ablage der Flachmaterialstücke (E) vorzusehen, wobei die Saugluftbeaufschlagung mittels einer Saugluftsteuereinrichtung derart steuerbar ist, dass die Flachmaterialstücke alternativ entweder der ersten Ablage (31) oder der zweiten Ablage (32) zuführbar sind.
