摘要:
The present invention provides an articulated vehicle for scrubbing floors that provides an operator station for riding on the vehicle and is particularly useful in cleaning relatively large floor surfaces that are defined by intersecting aisles of relatively narrow width. In this regard, the dimensional characteristics of the vehicle body facilitate tight turns in such aisles. Further, the location and/or shape of components of the vehicle and/or the positional relationship of one component to another component facilitate turns in narrow aisles. The vehicle also incorporates shock absorbing systems for the scrub head and vacuum squeegee that benefit the noted application.

A floor care machine that includes a deck having a motor, a rotatable floor care element for engaging a floor surface, and a handle apparatus pivotally mounted to the deck is provided. Additionally, there are first and second sets of wheels toward the rear of the deck and on opposite sides of handle apparatus pivot attachment points. In addition to the attachment points, the handle apparatus and the deck are coupled together by a rigid handle link which is pivotally attached to the deck at one end and pivotally attached to the handle apparatus at the other end. The handle link communicates deck pivot forces between the deck and the handle apparatus, and in particular, communicates such forces resulting from a compressing or decompressing of a compressible component provided along the length of the handle apparatus. A tension applied to the compressible component is communicated to the deck as a pivot force that counters deck gravitational and floor suction effects induced by the rotation of the floor care element.

The invention discloses the use of wear measuring elements (16) to monitor the wear of cleaning elements (14) on cleaning devices, such as cleaning machines (10) and vacuum cleaners. The wear measuring elements (16) are located adjacent to cleaning elements (14) and have a length corresponding to a minimum desired length for the cleaning elements (14). When the length of the cleaning elements (14) decreases due to usage to the length of the wear measuring elements (16), the user will realize that the cleaning elements (14) need replacement.

A floor care method and machine are disclosed, wherein a replaceable floor care element (e.g., a cleaning pad, a brush, a polishing pad, etc.) is easily attached to and detached from the rest of the machine. For attaching the floor care element, an operator positions the machine (minus any floor care element) over the such an element so that components on the machine and/or the floor care element cause the floor care element to operationally align with the rotatable drive of the machine so that rotation of the drive in the direction used during floor care operations causes the floor care element to securely attach to the drive. Alternatively, to detach the floor care element, the direction of rotation can be reversed. The machine can then be tilted upwardly onto its rear wheels and rolled to a location where the floor care element is not underneath the rest of the machine.

A cleaning tool (10) is disclosed that includes a brush unit (14) having bristles (22) that is positionable in each of a selected one of a cleaning position and a storage position. In the cleaning position, the brush bristles (22) contact the surface being cleaned using the tool (10). In the storage position, the brush bristles (22) face in a different direction from the cleaning position and do not contact any surface being cleaned. The tool (10) includes an attachment member (104) for receiving the brush unit (14). In order to change the position of the brush unit (14), it is removed from remaining parts of the tool and rotated or otherwise changed in position before re-joining it to the attachment member (104). In changing between cleaning and storage positions, the ends of the brush unit (14) are disposed at opposite ends of the attachment member (104). Preferably, the cleaning tool (10) includes a spray control assembly for controlling the spraying of a liquid cleaner during use of the cleaning tool. The spray control assembly (30) includes first and second locking assemblies for selectively preventing and enabling, respectively, such spraying while the tool is being used.
摘要:
A floor cleaning machine (20) has one or more barriers (90a,90b) immediately behind one or more scrubbing brushes (64,68), wherein the barriers (90a,90b) capture and control flow of a cleaning solution (and/or other substances) that exits from beneath the scrubbing brush(es) (64,68) so that such a solution is retained adjacent the scrub brush(es) (64,68) and recycled underneath the scrub brush(es) (64,68) for enhancing the floor cleaning effectiveness of the floor cleaning machine (20). The captured solution is urged back into contact with the scrubbing brush(es) (64,68) by the same rotating action that urged the solution to be ejected from the scrubbing brush(es) (64,68). The machine (20) also includes at least one splash guard (33) and a squeegee (29) mounted at the rear of the machine (20), with each of these latter components serving distinctly different functions from that of the barriers (90a,90b). The machine (20) may also include an exterior top storage area (28) for retaining various items that are useful in cleaning the floor.
