摘要: The present invention provides a removable vena cava filter (10) for capturing thrombi in a blood vessel. The filter comprises a plurality of primary struts (12) having first ends attached together along a longitudinal axis. Each primary strut includes an arcuate segment having a first tensile strength. The arcuate segment extends from the first end to an anchoring hook (26). The anchoring hook is integral with the arcuate segment and having the first thickness and first tensile strength. The filter further comprises a plurality of secondary struts (30) freely spaced between the primary struts and having connected ends attached together along the longitudinal axis. Each secondary strut freely extends from the connected end to a free end avoiding contact with other secondary struts and primary struts. Each secondary strut has a second tensile strength.

摘要: Apparatus for cooling the brain comprises a pernasal intubation tube (21) for insertion through one of the nostrils of a patient requiring brain cooling, an inflatable occluder (25) provided on the tube (21) to occlude the nasopharynx of the patient behind the soft palate of the patient and to prevent passage of liquid between the nasal cavities and the mouth of the patient; a pressure device (27) for application to the exterior of the nose of the patient so as to apply pressure to the angular vein of the patient thereby to increase venous blood flow to the patient's brain; and a coolant gas supply (29) for supplying coolant gas to at least one of the nasal cavities of the patient. Also described herein is a method of cooling the brain of a patient in danger of suffering brain damage comprising occluding the air passage leading from the nasal cavities to the mouth cavity of the patient behind the soft palate of the patient, applying pressure to an exterior part of the patient's nose so as to exert pressure on the angular vein of the patient thereby to increase venous blood flow to the patient's brain, and supplying a coolant gas to' the nasal cavities of the patient.

摘要: A stent or stent-graft deployment device and in particular a pusher member for such a device are disclosed. The pusher member (62) is provided with a reduced outer diameter section (64) and a pusher head (60). The reduced outer diameter section (64) reduces the thickness of the wall of the pusher member (62), with the result that the rigidity of the pusher member (62) is reduced at its distal end. This reduction in rigidity reduces the transition in flexibility between a guidewire catheter (24) extending through and beyond an inner channel of the pusher member (62) and the distal end of the pusher member (62). Thus, there is a gradual change in rigidities at the junction between these two components, which can reduce the possibility of kinking.

摘要: A fitting device (104) for fitting a stent-graft (100) into a lumen of a patient includes a catheter (110), a cannula (112) reciprocably carried in the catheter (110) and a pair of gripper claws (106) in the cannula (112). The gripper claws (106) grip onto a stent (102) at the proximal end (128) of the stent-graft (100) which a suture loop (108) is tied to a stent (102) at an intermediate position along the stent graft (100). The stent-graft (100) can be curved by pulling the end-most stent (102) backwards, that is by retracting the cannula (112) into the catheter (110) while the gripper claws (106) grip onto the stent (102). The proximal end of the stent-graft (100) can also be adjusted position-wise by moving the cannula (112) into and out of the catheter (110). Thus, precise positioning and curving of the stent-graft (100) can be achieved.

摘要: An implant release mechanism for releasing, for example, a stent (60) is provided with three restraining wires (62) which pass in the space between a wire guide catheter (24) and a pusher sheath or dilator (30) and are arranged substantially equi-angularly threrearound. Each restraining wire (62) holds both the proximal and distal ends of the stent (60), in this case each holding a proportion of the ends of the stent (60). When the restraining wires (62) are pulled they will first unwrap from the proximal end of the stent (60) and will then release the distal end of the stent (60) so as to allow the stent to become fully deployed within the lumen of the patient. The use of common release wires improves deployment of implants and reduces the number and volume of components in the device, thereby allowing it to occupy a smaller volume.

摘要: A stent graft delivery device (10) has an indwelling catheter (26) extending from a handle (12) through a pusher lumen and a stent graft lumen outside the guide wire catheter (32) of the delivery device towards the nose cone dilator (16). The indwelling catheter comprises a material able to transmit rotational and longitudinal movement (advancement and withdrawal) from the distal end to the proximal end thereof and a more flexible tip (24). The indwelling catheter facilitates catheterization of a branch artery.
