The invention relates to a method for heat treating a fuel assembly box (1) made of zircaloy during which the box is continuously moved relative to a heat treating device and is heated into the beta phase range in sections along its length with the aid of an inductive heating zone surrounding the box, and a longitudinal section heated in this manner is, after leaving the heating zone (4), cooled in a cooling zone (7) to a temperature in the alpha phase range. The heat treatment ensues with the aid of at least two heating devices (4a, 4b), which form a heating zone (4), each contain at least one induction coil (37, 38), operate independent of one another, and which are interspaced in the longitudinal direction (3) of the box. A box section entering the heating zone (4) is heated by a first heating device (4a) and is subsequently heat-treated by a second heating device (4b), which has an output lower than that of the first heating device (4a), and the cooling into the alpha phase range ensues with the aid of a flow of inert gas applied to the outer surface of the fuel assembly box.
