The present invention relates to a method for treating a gas including 0 ppm by volume to 0.5 vol % of at least one of the compounds COS and CS 2 , and 30 ppm by volume to 5 vol % of unsaturated hydrocarbon compounds, said method including the following steps: a) hydrogenating unsaturated organic compounds to form paraffins, by placing said gas in contact with a hydrogenation catalyst in the presence of hydrogen at a temperature of between 100 and 400°C so as to supply an effluent that is depleted of unsaturated hydrocarbon compounds, the hydrogenation catalyst including at least one metal selected from among palladium, platinum, nickel and cobalt deposited on a porous substrate; b) performing catalytic hydrolysis-hydrogenation in the presence of water of the COS and/or of the CS 2 contained in the effluent obtained from step a) so as to provide an effluent that is rich in H 2 S by placing the effluent obtained from step a) in contact with a hydrolysis-hydrogenation catalyst.
