The present invention relates to an active cathode material of the general formula (I) €ƒ€ƒ€ƒ€ƒ€ƒ€ƒ€ƒ€ƒ M x Ni a-y M 1 b M 2 c M 3 y O 2 €ƒ€ƒ€ƒ€ƒ€ƒ(I) in which the variables are each defined as follows: M is an alkali metal, M 1 is V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co or a mixture thereof, M 2 is Ge, Sn, Ti, Zr or a mixture thereof, M 3 is Mg, Zn, Cu or a mixture thereof, x is in the range from 0.5 to 0.8, a is in the range from 0.1 to 0.4, b is in the range from 0.05 to 0.7, c is in the range from 0.02 to 0.6, y is in the range from 0.05 to 0.2 wherein a + b + c = 1.
