Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing an aqueous cobalt sulphate solution having a pH value in the region of between 5 - 8, characterized in that (a) a metallic cobalt dissolves in aqueous sulfuric acid in an atmosphere low in oxygen, hydrogen or inert gas, and b) the thus produced acidic cobalt sulphate solution purifies in an ion exchanger.
