Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method for producing ethylene oxide by reacting ethylene with oxygen in the presence of at least one catalyst containing silver, wherein the reaction occurs in a reactor that has a catalyst packing having at least two layers (i) and (ii), and the silver content of the catalyst in the layer (i) is lower than the silver content of the catalyst in the layer (ii). The catalyst packing preferably comprises a further layer (a), with which the reaction mixture comes in contact prior to layers (i) and (ii). According to the invention, the silver content of the catalyst in the layer (a) is higher than the silver content of the catalyst in the layer (i).
