    摘要: A process for recovering Group VIII noble metals from tar is provided. The process involves heating a mixture of the Group VIII noble metal, tar and methyl iodide in a closed system at a temperature in excess of 50°C. During the process the Group VIII noble metal is precipitated in an insoluble form which can be separated by e.g. filtration. Precipitation preferably takes place at a temperature in the range 120 to 180°C. The process is particularly suitable for the recovery of either rhodium or iridium.

    摘要: The solubility and stability of rhodium catalysts in rhodium-catalysed carbonylation of alkyl esters or alkyl ethers under substantially anhydrous conditions to produce carboxylic acid anhydrides is improved by the use of co-promoters selected from the group:

    1,3-dialkyl-4-isopropylimidazolium iodide;

    1,3-dialkyl-2,4,5-trimethylimidazolium iodide and mixtures thereof where the alkyl groups are independently C₁ to C₂₀ alkyl.

The process comprises an extractive countercurrent distillation using acetic acid as the extractant in which an upward flow of the mixture in vapour flow is contacted with a downward flow of liquid acetic acid. The process is suitably carried out in a distillation column having between 20 and 60 plates.
