This invention relates to nitrile-free azo initiators for the preparation of polymer polyols and to the polymer polyols prepared therefrom. These novel polymer polyols comprise a base polyol, a preformed stabilizer and at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer, in the presence of at least one free-radical polymerization initiator comprising as azo compound that is free of nitrile groups, and optionally, a polymer control agent. The process of preparing these polymer polyols is a continuous process comprising free-radically polymerizing a base polyol, a preformed stabilizer, and at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer, in the presence of at least one free-radical polymerization initiator comprising as azo compound that is free of nitrile groups, and optionally, a polymer control agent.

The invention relates to a method for producing flexible moulded polyurethane foams (flexible moulded PU foams) with horizontally disposed zones of different hardness, the method being implemented in such a way that at least two fluid reaction mixtures, forming foams with different hardnesses, are introduced in succession in horizontal disposition, in layer form, into the moulding cavity, with at least one fluid reaction mixture being freely foamed, before at least one further foam-forming fluid reaction mixture is introduced into the moulding cavity.

The present invention relates to a method for producing polyether carbonate polyols, wherein: (i) in a first step, (a) carbon dioxide and propylene oxide or (b) carbon dioxide and a mixture of propylene oxide and at least one further alkylene oxide in a ratio by weight of > 90:10 are attached to one or more H-functional starting substances in the presence of at least one DMC catalyst; (ii) in a second step, the reaction mixture obtained from step (i) is (ii-1) first chain-lengthened with a mixture containing propylene oxide (PO) and ethylene oxide (EO) in a PO/EO ratio by weight of 90/10 to 20/80 in the presence of at least one DMC catalyst, (ii-2) then the resulting mixture is chain-lengthened with a mixture containing propylene oxide (PO) and ethylene oxide (EO) in a PO/EO ratio by weight of 60/40 to 2/98 in the presence of at least one DMC catalyst; and (iii) the polyether carbonate polyol resulting from step (ii) is chain-lengthened with ethylene oxide or a mixture of propylene oxide (PO) and ethylene oxide (EO) in a PO/EO ratio by weight of 5/95 to 0.1/99.9 in the presence of at least one DMC catalyst, wherein the portion by weight of EO in the mixture containing PO and EO in step (ii-2) is higher than the portion by weight of EO in the mixture containing PO and EO in step (ii-1). The invention relates to a method for producing polyether polyols comprising terminal primary hydroxyl groups. Said method includes the steps of reacting a starter compound containing active hydrogen atoms with an epoxide using double metal cyanide catalysis, reacting the obtained product with a cyclic carboxylic acid anhydride, and reacting said obtained product with ethylene oxide in the presence of a catalyst containing at least one nitrogen atom per molecule, with the exclusion of non-cyclic, identically substituted tertiary amines. The invention further relates to polyether polyols obtained using said method, compositions containing said polyols, and polyurethane polymers based on said polyols.
