摘要: A medical device for use with a fluid transfer device having a frusto-conically-shaped tip includes a hub having an open proximal end with a frusto-conically-shaped cavity therein, a distal end and a passageway therethrough. The cavity is part of the passageway. A release element in the passageway of the hub is positioned to block fluid-tight engagement of the frusto-conically-shaped tip with the cavity of the hub. Structure is provided to release at least part of the release element, upon application of a proximally directed force on the hub, to allow the abrupt fluid-tight engagement of the tip and the cavity in the hub.

摘要: A medical device having a releasable retaining includes needle cannula (21) connected to a hub (31) having an open proximal end (32) with a frusto-conically shaped cavity (33) therein. The cavity is part of a passageway (35) through the hub (31) which is in fluid communication with the lumen (24) of the needle cannula (21). A retaining element (41) is releasably connected to the hub (31). The hub (31) includes an aperture (43) and at least one protuberance (44) projecting into the aperture (43) for engaging the frusto-conically shaped tip (57) of a fluid delivery device (51). The protuberance (44) is shaped to offer less resistance to hub (31) movement in a direction of engagement than in a direction of disengagement with the tip (57). The retaining element (41) is connected to the hub (31) so that when the hub (31) is engaged to the tip (57), the force required to disengage the retaining element (41) from the tip (57) is greater than the force required to disengage the retaining element (41) from the hub (31).

摘要: A safety shield is provided for a medical implement having a needle cannula (14). The safety shield includes a guard (40) that is slidably movable along the needle cannula (14) from a proximal position where the tip (18) of the needle cannula (14) is exposed to a distal position where the tip (18) of the needle cannula (14) is safety shielded. A hinged arm (54) connects the guard (40) to a hub of the needle cannula (14) or to the medical implement with which the needle cannula (14) is used. The hinged arm (54) can be collapsed upon itself, such that the guard (40) is adjacent the hub (20) of the needle cannula (14). Alternatively, the hinged arm (54) can be extended to cause the guard (40) to move distally along the needle cannula (14) and into a position for shielding the tip (18) of the needle cannula (4). A spring (90) may be provided to assist movement of the guard (40) toward the distal shielded position.

摘要: Syringe assemblies having a passive disabling system to prevent reuse are provided. According to one or more embodiments, the syringe assembly comprises a barrel, plunger rod and stopper wherein the plunger rod further comprises a flexible protrusion that locks the plunger rod within the barrel. Certain embodiments further include a frangible portion on the plunger rod that breaks when reuse is attempted.

摘要: Syringe assemblies (100) having a passive disabling system to prevent reuse are provided. In one embodiment, the passive disabling system activates after completion of an injection cycle. An exemplary syringe assembly incorporates a stopper (160) and plunger rod (140) attached in a manner to prevent users from disassembling the syringe prior to completion of the injection cycle. The barrel (120) may also include an annular extension (400) or collar that extends from the proximal end of the barrel. In a specific configuration, the annular extension at least partially envelopes a portion of the thumb press to prevent the user from accessing the thumb press and moving the plunger rod in a proximal direction Syringe assemblies of one or more embodiments also include visual indicators or markers indicating whether a syringe assembly is used or the plunger rod is locked within the barrel.

摘要: A fluid transfer device comprises an access cannula assembly including a cannula having a proximal end, a distal end and a lumen therethrough, a cutting edge at the distal end of the cannula for piercing a vial stopper and a hub having an open proximal end and a distal end joined to the proximal end of the cannula so that the lumen is in fluid communication with the proximal end of the hub. A blunt cannula assembly includes a blunt cannula having a proximal end, a distal end, and a passageway therethrough, and a housing having an open proximal end and a distal end joined to the proximal end of the cannula. A spring is provided for helping to position the access cannula within the passageway of the blunt cannula wherein a proximally directed force applied to the blunt cannula will cause the spring to deflect and the cutting edge of the access cannula to project distally outwardly past the distal end of the blunt cannula.
