摘要： The present invention is directed to a shieldable blood collection set (10) as well as a needle assembly (12) for use therein. The needle assembly (12) includes a needle cannula (20) having a puncture tip (28) at a distal end (24) thereof; a hub (30) which supports the needle cannula (20); and a shield (50) axially movable between a non-shielding position, in which the puncture tip (28) of the needle cannula (20) is exposed from the shield (50), and a shielding position in which the shield (50) covers the puncture tip (28). A pair of extendable members (70,72) interconnects the hub (30) and the shield (50). The pair of extendable members (70,72) are moveable between a mating position forming a unitary structure; a lateral position forming a pair of wings extending from opposing sides of the needle assembly (12); and an extended position causing the shield (50) to move from the non-shielding position to the shielding position.

摘要： A safety shield is provided for a medical implement having a needle cannula (14). The safety shield includes a guard (40) that is slidably movable along the needle cannula (14) from a proximal position where the tip (18) of the needle cannula (14) is exposed to a distal position where the tip (18) of the needle cannula (14) is safety shielded. A hinged arm (54) connects the guard (40) to a hub of the needle cannula (14) or to the medical implement with which the needle cannula (14) is used. The hinged arm (54) can be collapsed upon itself, such that the guard (40) is adjacent the hub (20) of the needle cannula (14). Alternatively, the hinged arm (54) can be extended to cause the guard (40) to move distally along the needle cannula (14) and into a position for shielding the tip (18) of the needle cannula (4). A spring (90) may be provided to assist movement of the guard (40) toward the distal shielded position.
