A clamping device (1) for holding a plurality of bunches of filaments (2, 3, 4) pertaining to a field of bristles arranged on the head of a toothbrush. The clamping device (1) comprises fixed and moveable clamping elements (8, 9, 10, 17, 18, 19, 20) provided with continuous holes (7, 12, 13) which are used to pass said bunches of filaments (2, 3, 4) through the two planes of said clamping elements and which are aligned with each other when the clamping device (1) is in a non-actuated state and are offset in relation to each other when the clamping device (1) is in an actuated state, in order to clamp the bunches of filaments (2, 3, 4) cross-wise in relation to the longitudinal direction of the filaments and to hold them. The invention is characterised in that several moveable clamping elements (8, 9, 10), which are displaceable in relation to the fixed clamping elements (17, 18, 19, 20), are provided in the clamping device (1). Each of the moveable clamping elements (8, 9, 10) is provided to respectively hold another part of the bristle field. The invention also relates to a method for holding a bundle of filaments by means of a clamping device with at least two clamping elements. According to said method, the bundles of filaments are effectively prevented from undesirably slipping out of the filament feeder device and from being damaged as a result of an excessive clamping force.
