The system includes operative control means interposed between actuator means and at least one of the two transmission elements in order to instigate the displacement upon the operation of the actuator means; resilient means (106a, 106b) are also interposed between the operative control means and the actuator means and can yield resiliently as a result of the thrust component along the displacement axis when the said component exceeds a predetermined threshold value corresponding to a value of the maximum torque transmitted by the transmission.
