A system for splicing optical fiber sections is constructed as a handheld splicing device (1000). The splicing device comprises a preprocessing unit (100) which can comprise multiple processing devices (110, 120, 130) for performing placing, cleaning, and separation steps. The optical fiber sections are clamped in a holding device (200) and prepared in the preprocessing unit. The holding devices are inserted into a splicing unit (300) with the prepared optical fiber sections, which are spliced therein. By means of a transfer station (400), the spliced optical fiber sections are fed to a shrink oven (500) for shrinking on a heat shrink sleeve. The operation of the preprocessing unit, both the splicing unit and the shrink oven, can be carried out with one hand by an operator, while the splicing unit is held with the other hand.

A device and a method are disclosed, for the shrinking of a shrinkable protective element (101) onto an optical fibre (100) by means of the introduction of heat. According to the invention, radiant heat is generated, reflected and focussed in a focal zone in which the protective element (101) is held. The device comprises a heating element (10), generating thermal radiation, a reflector (30), which focuses the thermal radiation emitted from the heating element in the focussing zone and a mounting (20), by means of which the protective element (101) can be held in the focussing zone.

The invention relates to a device for splicing optical waveguides (1, 2), which is arranged on a carrier plate (10) which is embodied as a circuit board. Said device comprises a first optical wave guide lead (20a), which is arranged on a spring steel sheet (80a), in order to displace a first optical waveguide (1) in the longitudinal direction, and a second optical waveguide lead (20b) which is arranged on an additional spring steel sheet (80b) in order to displace a second optical waveguide (2) in the longitudinal direction. The spring steel sheets (80a, 80b) are arranged on a flexible lever arm (60a, 60b). The optical waveguides, which are inserted into the optical waveguide leads (20a, 20b), can be displaced in the transversal direction (Sx, Sy) by bending the lever arm (60a, 60b). Precision required for aligning the optical waveguides is produced by the forces which engage on the flexible devices (60a, 60b, 80a, 80b).
