The control system (80) comprises a detector (27) for detecting a foreign object (55) in the collected crop (50) and one or more controllers (82) configured to receive a signal from the detector (27) that is indicative of a foreign object (55) in the collected crop (50) while the pickup assembly (10) is in the operational configuration. The control system is configured to control the lift assembly (70) to raise the pickup assembly (10), away from the crop 50) on the ground, to the non-operational condition, based on the received signal.
