摘要:
An image processing system for optical systems including microscopes which separately captures (grabs) different portions of the electromagnetic spectrum as emitted from an object as separate images. Each of the separate images are individually focused and then aligned with the other images to produce a composite image. In one embodiment, the different portions correspond to red, green, and blue and the composite image is displayed to the user on as a monitor without any need for an eye-piece.

An autofocusing system in which optimal or nearly optimal linear filters are selected for filtering an image signal so that the components of the image signal which contain image content, and thus, focus information are amplified while the components of the image signal which contain noise are damped. One set of nearly optimal linear filters are modified second order difference filters in which the number of internal zeros are modified to tune the filter to the particular equipment.

In a flexure arrangement for translating positioning of an object (52) in a microscope system, two actuators (47 ; 49) both act along a first direction, while the object partly, with a gear ratio, along the second direction, which is perpendicular to the first.

An image registration (alignment) system which achieves alignment by determining an optimal focus for a composite image produced from the combination of misregistered images. The system also uses optimal or nearly optimal linear filters for filtering the combined image to emphasize (enhance) alignment information in the combined image and to de-emphasize (damp) noise. One set of the nearly optimal linear filters are modified second order difference filters in which the number of internal zeros are modified to tune the filter to the particular equipment.

In a method in an optical system, a structure having a periphery is reproduced by means of an objective and an electronic representation of the structure is produced. Moreover is it analysed how the intensity in the electronic representation varies at the periphery of the structure. This intensity variation is then used to determine an application focus value which indicates how the current focus position of the objective is related to an optimal focus position for the application at issue. The method can be used, for example, for automatic focusing or for optical checking of objects.
