The present invention is directed at a method for the preparation of a multi-block co-polymer by reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated monomers with different activities in the presence of a chain transfer agent (CTA), wherein the innermost block of the multi-block copolymer is obtained from ethylenically unsaturated monomers having the highest reactivity toward radical addition within the multi-block copolymer. The invention is also directed at said chain transfer agent, the use thereof for preparing said multi-block copolymer, said multiblock copolymer, a process for the preparation of the chain transfer agent, and the use of said multiblock copolymer as an emulsifying or dispersing agent.
