The switching device has two opposite contact pieces, wherein at least one of the contacts is of moveable design and is under spring pretension in the closing direction of the switching device. The opening state of the switching device is ensured by the unlocking slide and is released by the thermal tripping means for closing the switching device.

According to the invention, functionally separated, mechanical catch or snap-in elements act between the respective plug-in module and the socket-type lower part independently of the forces which hold together the contact elements and the contact counter elements in a positively fixed and/or non-positively fixed manner when the plug-in module is in use. The catch or snap-in function can be cancelled without any mechanical auxiliary means when the respective plug-in module is to be replaced.

The invention relates to a pluggable surge arrester comprising one or several surge protection elements which are disposed within a structural unit with an optical fault indicator. The inventive surge arrester further comprises a thermal surge protector (5) that encompasses a mechanical actuator for triggering a remote indication contact in order to signal a fault. A linearly guided slide (1) is provided which is movable perpendicular to the plugging direction of the arrester and is equipped with an elastic tongue (2). The free end (3) of said tongue (2) can be blocked by a locking element (4). Furthermore, the thermal surge protector (5) is fitted with an actuating bolt (6) which acts upon the free end (3) of the tongue (2) when triggered in order to move the free end (3) out of the blocked position such that the slide (1) is released. According to the invention, the connector elements consist of a pair of current-dividing metallic brackets (1, 1'), wherein the ends of said brackets (1, 1') which are directed toward the overvoltage protection element run parallel and include the corresponding contact lug (14) therebetween. The ends of the brackets (1, 1') which are turned away from the overvoltage protection element are connected to each other, enclosing a free space, and have a section (12) for external connector components or connector clamps. The slider (4) with pretensioned spring (2) is set in the free space, wherein the spring pretensioning is directed in the direction of the contact lug (14) of the overvoltage protection element. Furthermore, the slider (4) has a wedge shape and/or sections of the brackets have an inclined surface in order to generate a force component on the parallel ends of the brackets when the slider moves in such a way that said ends of the brackets can be moved away by the contact lug. The aforementioned solder or adhesive connection is formed in the area of the parallel ends of the brackets and the contact lug.

The invention relates to a device for deviating overvoltages, comprising one or several parallel mounted overvoltage limiting elements, such as varistors, diodes or the like, arranged in a structural unit and comprising at least one switching device for the electrical separation of said elements in the event of thermal overload of said overvoltage limiting element(s), in addition to means for displaying and/or indicating a given error state. According to the invention, a first switching device is provided, said device entering into thermal contact with the overvoltage limiting elements and actuating or triggering an optical display once a first temperature limit (T1) is reached, in order to indicate a limit of use or or service life limit for the overvoltage limiting element(s). A second switching device, which also enters into thermal contact with the overvoltage limiting elements, is also provided. Said device initiates electric separation and display of an error state in a manner known per se when a second temperature limit (T2) is reached. Temperature limit (T2) is greater than temperature limit (T1).
